District and Sessions Judge Devendra Singh Solanki sentenced Sushil Tekam (28) for hacking his mother-in-law to death with an axe following a dispute over serving food, Public Prosecutor Jeevanlal Bisen said.
The incident had taken place at Bandra village in Seoni district on December 25, 2014, in which Raseeli Bai died on the spot.
After hearing the screams of her mother, Sushil's wife and other family members had woken up and tried to catch hold of him. However, he escaped from the spot after hitting his minor daughter with an axe.
The court also imposed Rs 100 fine on him, the prosecution said.
