Man held at airport for smuggling gold worth Rs 24 lakh

A man has been arrested for allegedly smuggling into the country gold worth nearly Rs 24 lakh at the international airport here, the customs department today said.
The accused, who had arrived here from Dubai, was intercepted by customs officials on Saturday.
"On detailed examination of his baggage and personal search, eight pieces of gold bars total weighing 933.12 gms were recovered," a release issued today by the customs said.
The passenger was arrested and the gold bars were seized, it said.
The total value of eight gold bars is assessed to be Rs 23.59 lakh, the release said.
