The accused, 37-year-old Mohammad Abid Sheikh, was arrested by Marine Drive police last evening. The accused and others involved in the crime, were collecting money from people although that particular street is designated as 'pay-and-park' free.
"Sheikh was allegedly collecting parking charges from the vehicle owners, who used to park their vehicles at Jamnalal Bajaj (JB) street in Fort area of south Mumbai," a police officer said.
"A few days ago, Marine Drive police had received a complaint from the maintenance department of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) that although parking at J B street is free for citizens, some people are collecting money and issuing receipts with BMC logo printed on them," police said.
"More people are likely to be arrested in the case," police said. Further investigation is on.
