A man was arrested today with Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN) with face value of Rs 52 lakh from Gundlav village of Valsad district, Gujarat Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) officials said.
ATS officials received a tip off that two persons will pass through Gundlav bus stop on the NH-8 in Valsad this morning to deliver the fake currency notes.
"Based on a tip off, we intercepted the two men travelling on a bike near Gundlav bus stop. While one managed to flee from the spot, another has been caught. We found 5,200 currency notes of Rs 1,000 denomination, having face value of Rs 52 lakh in his bag," sub-inspector, ATS, C R Jadav said.
The accused has been identified as Umesh Rathod (25), a resident of Valsad town, while the man who managed to escape was identified as Rakesh, he said.
"Primary investigation revealed that these fake notes were handed over to the duo by a person named Vishal. According to Rathod, Vishal asked them to reach at Gundlav cross roads to deliver these notes to a receiver," said Jadav.
Rathod claimed that Vishal had hired him and Rakesh to deliver the notes and they were promised a payment of Rs 10,000 to accomplish the job.
"We are now acquiring other details to nab Vishal and Rakesh," the officer said.
