The court of Additional Sessions Judge also imposed a fine of Rs 5000 on the convict Dharambir, a resident of Hansi under the Electricity Act.
In default of payment of fine, the convict shall further undergo simple imprisonment for a period of one month.
Dharambir was caught stealing electricity from low tension power supply line by hooking the system directly due to which Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam suffered a loss to the tune of Rs 63,673, including the compounding charges.
The Court observed, "the tendency of committing theft of electricity is increasing day by day and has assumed alarming proportions. Some of the electricity boards are under huge debts primarily due to theft of electricity."
