The Ambajogai tehsil sessions court sentenced a man to life imprisonment and ordered him to pay a fine of Rs 10,000, in the 2012 radio set bomb blast case.
The accused Aba alias Rajabhau Giri of Kendrewadi village, who had personal enmity with one Gopinath Tarkase of the same village, had allegedly kept gelatine sticks inside a radio set, which he packed in a parcel along with a letter in which he had written two mobile phone numbers and kept it on a Ambajogai-Kurla Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) bus.
Giri did this, hoping that the police would find the parcel and arrest Tarkase, who had filed a case against him at the Ambajogai police station in 2011.
However, on November 30, 2012, MSRTC bus conductor Om Nimbalkar(35), his mother Kusum (53, wife Usha (30) and two-year-old son Kunal were seriously injured, when the parcel which he found and took home exploded while he was trying to replace its battery pack.
Police investigations revealed that the parcel was planted by Giri who wanted to frame Gopinath Tarkase of Kendrewadi village and settle scores with him.
The Ambajogai sessions court government pleader Ashok Girvalkar examined 24 witnesses and judge R A Gaikwad sentenced Giri to life imprisonment as well as ordered him to pay a fine of Rs 10,000.
One Datta Jadhav, who allegedly gave gelatine sticks to Giri, was acquitted by the court after the prosecution failed to prove charges against him.
