The accused Arthanari shot the dog with his country-made gun today morning. On dog's owner Karthik, complaint he was later arrested and his gun was seized, they said.
During questioning, he said the dog used to bark at him whenever he use to cross by his house and also attempted to bite him and hence he killed it.
Police registered a case under IPC section 429 (Mischief by killing or maiming cattle, etc), Arms Act for possessing unlicenced gun and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
The dog was sent for post-mortem at the local animal husbandry hospital, they added.
