Mancheswar carriage repair workshop registers 53 pc growth

The Carriage Repair Workshop of East Coast Railway at Mancheswar has registred an increase of 53 per cent growth in periodic overhauling (POH) of wagons during 2015-16 and scaled a new height in production among workshops in the Indian Railways, official sources said.
The Workshop has also achieved 37.5 per cent growth in Intermediate Overhauling during the same period.
"The Mancheswar Workshop has given best ever performances in various fields like corrosion outturn, coach refurbishment, BMBC conversion, provision of LED based Tail Lamp in SLR Coaches, provision of Laptop and Mobile Charging Points in Coaches & provision of LED based Emergency lights, augmentation of Bio-toilets in coaches and others," said SK Pankaj, Chief Workshop Manager of Mancheswar Carriage Repair Workshop.
Informing about the achievements, Pankaj claimed that this is the only Workshop of Indian Railways to have 5S Certification with ISO-9001:2008, ISO14001:2004 & OHSAS18001:2007 Certificates.
Mancheswar Workshop has also achieved the distinction of becoming the most productive workshop over Indian Railways during 2015-16 because of Manpower Productivity Ratio 1.75 only that means 1.75 per cent Manpower per out turn of a coach.
Mancheswar Workshop which started POH & IOH of LHB coaches in a big way, has now become capable to take full load of East Coast Railway, he said.
As part of Indian Railways marching towards the Green
Railways, East Coast Railway has augmented 1712 Bio-toilets in 569 Coaches over it's jurisdiction.
Mancheswar Workshop is developing a Bacteria Generation Plant of capacity 27000 ltrs per month, Pankaj said adding that it is expected that this bacteria Generation Plant will be fully functional by December 2016.
Now, all the coaches of Bhubaneswar-Rameswaram, Bhubaneswar-Puduchery, Bhubaneswar-Tirupati, Bhubaneswar-Pune, Visakhapatnam-LTT, Visakhapatnam-Gandhidham, Puri-Okha, Visakhapatnam-Amritsar Hirakud Express and Visakhapatnam-Durg Passenger are fitted with Bio-toilets and these are running as Green Train.
Apart from this, Mancheswar Workshop is now also planning to march towards the conservation of Energy and reducing Green House effect by utilising Solar Power System to save electricity, Pankaj said.
As part of its effort to make local youths employable, the Mancheswar Workshop has been conducting skill development courses for ITI & Diploma holders from various Institutions.
1863 ITI and Diploma holders have already been imparted training related to welding, painting & operation of various machines installed inside workshop.
In addition, 200 students from 9 Government Engineering Colleges and 27 Private Engineering Colleges are being provided one month Summer Training Programme at Mancheswar Workshop. These Students prepared projects related to Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering & Civil Engineering.
