The victim has been admitted in local civil hospital and her condition is stated to be stable according to Dr Rajiv Prashar.
Stating that the accused Paramjit Singh and the victim worked together for an educational NGO in Talwandi Mehma village, SSP Dhanpreet Kaur said Paramjit, who was already married, was forcing her to have illicit relations with him.
When she refused his proposal, Paramjit waylaid her and threw acid on her face and other parts of her body and fled on his bike, the SSP said.
Deputy Commissioner Daljit Singh Mangat and Additional Deputy Commissioner Kuldip Singh Chandi visited the hospital where the victim is undergoing treatment and announced Rs 50,000 from Red Cross Society.
