The Madhya Pradesh government today announced that 40 per cent of the Rs 1 crore compensation given to the kin of martyred soldiers will be handed over to parents while the rest would be for the legal heir.
The announcement in this connection was made by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan today while addressing a programme in the state's Bhind district in honour of families of martyrs.
Chouhan had announced the Rs 1 crore compensation, called "samman nidhi" by the state government, in July last year.
He said today that 40 per cent allocation of the compensation to the parents of martyred soldiers was to ensure that they lead their lives comfortably.
He also said that the state government would provide a monthly pension of Rs 5,000 to the parents while the legal heir would be given a job as well as a flat or plot of land.
Roads and squares would be named after martyrs and statues would also be erected in schools and public places, the MP CM said.
On the occasion, the Chief Minister honoured 119 families of martyrs of Bhind district and told the gathering that of the 30,000 jawans who had laid down their lives in the service of the nation after Independence, 602 belonged to MP.
He added that maximum martyrs from the state hailed from Bhind, Morena and Gwalior districts.
