Rupert Wyatt, who directed the 2011 film, was due to return to work with Fox and producers at Chernin Entertainment again but he exited the venture last month amid speculation he was unhappy with the projected release date of May 2014.

The first film starred James Franco, John Lithgow and Andy Serkis as Caesar the ape and it's ending set audiences up perfectly for the sequel, reported Aceshowbiz.

'Dawn of the Planet of the Apes' has been written by Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver.
