Meet underlines better connectivity need for CATO tribal areas

A two-day high-level coordination meeting of police and para-military officials today underlined the need for improved road and communication networks in areas inhabited by tribals in border regions of Chhattisgarh, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Odisha (CATO).
It also deliberated on the need to improve living conditions of people in these areas, a statement issued by Andhra Pradesh Director General of Police J V Ramudu said.
Besides Ramudu, DGP of Telanagana Anurag Sharma, DGP of Odisha K B Singh and Additional DGP of Chhattisgarh T J Longkumer attended the meeting.
Top officials from Central Reserve Police Force Director General, Border Security Force and Union Ministry of Home Affairs also took part in the meet the started today.
Issues like development activities in interior and border areas, road connectivity, tribal welfare, internal security, Maoist activities along the borders were some of the issues discussed at the meeting, the statement added.
Welfare measures like building hospitals, developing eco-tourism, encouraging horticulture, providing quality education and employment opportunities to tribals were also discussed.
"It has been decided to have better coordination among the neighbouring states at field level in matters of exchange of intelligence, control of narcotics smuggling and information network about the movement of criminals and control of crime.
"Coordination meeting with agencies involved in security of the sea coast was also organised wherein it was discussed to have better synergy in control of crime and ensure national security," the DGP said.
