A middle aged man has been arrested for allegedly molesting a minor girl at his residence in suburban Malad, police said today.
According to Dindoshi police, 45-year-old Mohammed Abdullah Shaikh was arrested yesterday after the victim's parents approached the police accusing their neighbour of molesting their 13-year-old daughter.
In her complaint, the victim alleged that the accused, a resident of Irani Wadi area at Dindoshi in Malad, used to lure her with chocolates and other food items. Shaikh also used to give her money to buy chocolates so that she felt comfortable with him, police said.
"The accused gave some sweets to the victim and took her to his house on Wednesday under the pretext of giving her money to buy food items. Once at his house, the accused started touching the victim inappropriately. He threatened her with dire consequences if she revealed about the incident to anyone," Police Inspector Dilip Yadav told PTI.
The victim then ran out of his home and narrated the incident to her parents, who in turn approached Dindoshi police and filed a complaint against the accused. Subsequently Shaikh was arrested from his house, police said.
The accused has been booked under IPC sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 506 (criminal intimidation) and relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
