The incident came to light when the parents started searching for the girl on not finding her at home after returning from work last evening, they said.
Police said the parents of the girl, who is a class two student, hail from Hubballi and had come to the city in search of work.
Stating that search is on to nab the culprit, police said they have obtained CCTV footage from a nearby shop which shows a middle aged man with the girl.
