A 13-year-old boy was allegedly shot dead by his teenager friend in neighbouring Ranga Reddy district today, police said.
Though police are investigating whether it was a case of accidental firing or intentional, they booked the 16-year-old accused for murder under section 302 of IPC and Arms Act, they said.
"Whether the death happened due to accidental firing or intentional is under investigation," a police officer said, adding that the accused was untraceable since the incident happened.
The incident occurred on the outskirts of Tirumalapur in Kulkarcherla block where a group of three boys went for hunting.
According to police, the accused was carrying a country- made weapon that he brought from his home.
"The 16-year-old boy, studying in IX standard, was toying with the firearm which he brought along with him. He was reportedly scaring the victim, a class VII student, while toying with the weapon. However, it seems he happened to pull the trigger. The bullet pierced from the backside of the victim," police said.
The uncle of the deceased alleged in his complaint that his nephew was shot dead owing to previous "rivalry" with the family of the accused.
Kulkarcherla Police is also investigating how and from where the juvenile's family procured the country-made weapon.
