Malarkodi was noticed missing around midnight on Sunday by her parents Suresh and Bharathi, eking out a living by collecting waste, when they woke up from sleep on the platform of nearby Ayodhyapattinam Railway station.
The couple, who move around places and use bus stands or railway stations to spend their nights, were searching for their child.
The girl's body was found in an irrigation well in Karipatti police limits, about two kms from the railway station. Further investigation was on, police added.
