MLA calls for compensation to ambush victims

Mizo National Front (MNF) member Lalruatkima today urged the Mizoram government to pay Rs 15 lakh each to four persons who died in an ambush by Hmar militants near the Mizoram-Manipur border Zokhawthiang hamlet on March 28 last.
In a special mention during zero hour in the state legislature, Lalruatkima said that the state government decided to pay Rs seven lakh each as ex-gratia to the next-of- kins of those killed in the ambush.
"The official memorandum issued by the state government on October 27, 2010 said that those who died in attacks by militants or terrorists should be disbursed Rs 15 lakh," he said.
A team of assembly committee on government assurances comprising three legislators, including the lone woman legislator in the state assembly, were ambushed by the Hmar People's Convention (Democrats) militants killing three policemen on the spot while another one died in a hospital later.
