MLAs demand compensation for farmers, rollback of water tariff

AAP and BJP MLAs today raised several issues in the Assembly ranging from compensation for farmers affected by unseasonal rain to rollback of the government decision to increase water tariff by 10 per cent.
Former Law Minister and AAP MLA Somnath Bharti demanded use of portable device to check electricity metres on the spot if there was any complaint of 'faulty metres'.
Former Union Minister Ajay Maken and former Delhi Assembly Speaker Yoganand Shastri were present in the guest gallery.
AAP MLAs Devendra Sehrawat from Biswasan and Naresh Balyan from Uttam Nagar said the government should compensate those farmers whose crops have been destroyed due to the recent unseasonal rains.

"Unseasonal rain damaged the crops in six villages of my constituency and wheat and mustard were affected due to rain. In some states, farmers, whose crops have been damaged, have been compensated. The Delhi government should also give compensation to farmers," Sehrawat said in the House.
Balyan reiterated the same demand, saying that government should do something in this regard.

Delhi Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel said there is need to a foolproof plan to check faulty metres.
Bharti said that portable device should be used to check electricity metres on the spot if there is any complaint of 'faulty metres'. He said at present, if there is any complaint of faulty metres, discom employees take metre to its lab to check it following which the government should ask discoms to use portable device to check metres on the spot.

BJP MLA Om Prakash Sharma demanded a rollback of the government decision to increase water tariff by 10 per cent, saying that "it is betrayal on people".
