Modi-led govt should have compact structure: Assocham

It added the country needs refreshment in the management style of the government

The new government led by Narendra Modi should have a lean and compact structure without too many layers, Assocham said today.

"The new government does not need 70-80 ministers. We need refreshment in the management style of the government and it is important to have a compact team, without too many layers, akin to the flat organisation structure that the Gujarat government had," Assocham President Rana Kapoor said.

"The decision on members of new cabinet is very critical and will send a strong message to all stakeholders. This selection requires very deep thought, which I am sure has been discussed thoroughly by the BJP leadership team over the last 9-10 months, as this win has been visible for a while," he added.

Narendra Modi, who led the BJP to a landslide victory in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections, will be on May 26 sworn in as the country's 15th Prime Minister at Rashtrapati Bhawan.

Given his thrust on 'minimum government, maximum governance' in the past, there are indications of Modi having a 'lean' government structure in place by clubbing ministries with overlapping responsibilities.
