As he prepares to undertake his first visit to China, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today logged into a popular social media platform of that country to reach out to its populace.
Modi joined 'Weibo', which is considered the Chinese version of Twitter on which he is already very active.
"Hello China! Looking forward to interacting with Chinese friends through Weibo," he said in his post in Chinese language.
On this platform, he also extended his wishes on Buddha Purnima to Chinese many of whom are believers in Buddhism.
"I would like to convey my greetings to all of you on the occasion of Buddha Purnima. Today, we remember the august ideals and mission of Lord Buddha who spread the message of harmony and brotherhood and envisaged a peaceful world.
"Buddha is a binding force that connects us, Asian nations. It can emerge as a strong unifying force to make this century an Asian century," Modi said in his message.
Weibo is said to be the largest micro-blogging site of the country with over 140 million users.
Modi is expected to undertake a visit to China in the middle of this month, his first to the country as Prime Minister. Earlier, as Gujarat Chief Minister, he had travelled to China a number of times.
