Northeast Frontier Railway has beefed up security at all major stations in the region ahead of Independence Day, officials said on Monday.
The railway stations are being guarded by respective state police personnel and other security agencies, NF Railway spokesman P J Sharma said here.
"The security of Guwahati Railway station is of paramount importance as it is the biggest station of the northeast with a footfall of 40,000, and more than 30 pairs of trains pass through daily," he said.
A quick reaction team comprising fully-armed RPSF jawans along with RPF personnel are on shift duty at the station, Sharma said.
Track patrolling in vulnerable stretches by motor trolleys, random frisking and anti-sabotage checks are also being carried out, he added.
