Mountaineering expedition flagged off for Siachen

Army's Ace of Spade division flagged off a mountaineering expedition to 6,550-metre high mount Zago Kangri in the Siachen Glacier region from Rajouri, a Defence spokesperson said today.
"Ace of Spade division yesterday flagged off the expedition to Mountain Zago Kangri in the Siachen Glacier region from Rajouri," the Spokesperson said.
Indian Army has a long standing tradition of fostering spirit of adventure amongst all its ranks and has been a role model in undertaking high risk adventure activities, he said.
"The peak is unscaled, thereby making the challenge even greater," he said.
The expedition team consists of 21 members including three reserve members and is a mix of experienced and first time climbers, he said.
A similar expedition was launched last summer but due to inclement weather the expedition had to be called off midway in September 2014, he said.
The General Officer Commanding of the division while flagging off the expedition said that he was confident that the team will come back successful.
Lt Col Yogesh Dhumal, team leader of the expedition, said the whole team has undergone a rigorous training schedule and was ready to undertake the expedition.
Dhumal said that he is confident of successfully summit the peak.
