The family of a murdered youth today complained to the police he was eliminated for daring to protest against the hooch and gambling racket operating in the area at Malkani in Jalpaiguri district.
Police said an inquiry has been ordered into the death of Swapan Sarkar, who was fatally stabbed on last Friday night by unknown people.
Political parties in the area protested against the mushrooming of gambling and hooch dens in the locality.
