Cricketer turned politician, BJP MP from Amritsar Navjot Singh Sidhu has invited wrath of Sikh community for allegedly uttering twisted quotes of Gurbani (quotes from holy Sikh scripture Guru Granth Sahib) in satirical form perturbing some Sikh religious organisations.
Sidhu allegedly uttered Sikh religious quotes singing in a humorous manner in a TV show a few days ago.
Jathedar Akal Takaht (highest Sikh Temporal seat) Gyani Gurbachan Singh cautioned Sidhu saying he should understand the sensitivity of religion. The Sikh community could be annoyed if anybody utters wrong quotations of Gurbani as it hurt the sentiments of the community.
The Jathedar made it clear that so far no written complaint in this regard was filed at Akal Takaht.
He ruled out the possibility of summoning Sidhu to Akal Takaht saying that Sidhu was not baptised Sikh and he was not following the Sikh customs.
However, Sidhu himself should express apology in public as it would soothe the sentiments of Sikhs, he said.
The Jathedar cautioned Sidhu said that in future he should remain careful as no one should hurt the sentiments of any individual or community.
