CBI Special Court Judge M K Sharma yesterday awarded five-year RI to Ram Lakhan Rai, former General Manager of Northern Coalfields Ltd (NCL) and also ex-Chief General Manager of South Eastern Coalfields Ltd (SECL), and his son Ashok Rai.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs two lakh each on them.
During the CBI searches, Rai was allegedly found in possession of assets worth Rs 1,27,63,034 which were disproportionate to his known sources of income.
The officer amassed the wealth between January 1, 1996 and September 29, 2004 during his tenure in the NCL and SECL respectively, the prosecution further said.
The CBI had charge-sheeted Rai on December 28, 2006 on the completion of investigation and booked him and his son under sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(e) of Prevention of Corruption Act and section 109 of Indian Penal Code.
