"State unit chief Nobel Verma had handed his resignation and the party high command has accepted it," said Satish Jaggi, working president of the NCP youth wing.

The reason behind his resignation is not yet known and the leader could not be contacted over phone despite repeated efforts.

Meanwhile following the development, senior NCP leader from Ambikapur Ramanuj Agrawal was elevated as working president of the state unit, party sources said.

Verma was the only NCP MLA in the 90-member state Assembly from 2003 to 2008.
