The National Commission for Women today set up a committee to inquire into the death of the 35-year-old former Delhi University employee who immolated herself and succumbed to burn injuries at a hospital here.
The committee will hold a meeting tomorrow with Delhi University Vice Chancellor Dinesh Singh, chairperson of Delhi State Commission for Women Barkha Singh, Commissioner of Delhi Police Bhim Sain Bassi and Additional Commissioner of Police, North-East Zone, V V Chaudhary to discuss the case of the former lab assistant who died yesterday.
NCW members Nirmala Samant Prabhavalkar, Vinod Sharma, Sangeeta Chhabra and Aarti Chawla are part of the committee.
"We have also issued notices to the Principal of Bhim Rao Ambedkar College and other persons involved in the case. They have also been asked to come tomorrow for the hearing. If sexual harassment is taking place in schools and colleges, it is very unfortunate," Prabhavalkar said.
The 35-year-old former lab assistant had doused herself with kerosene and set herself on fire at gate number 6 of the Delhi Secretariat. She had sustained 92 per cent burns and was taken to LNJP Hospital where she died yesterday.
Police had recovered a purported suicide note from the spot in which she had said she was taking the extreme step protesting alleged physical and mental harassment by Principal G K Arora and another staff member of Bhim Rao Ambedkar College in Yamuna Vihar.
She was sacked from the college two years ago.
