With an aim of training school children about various measures to prevent Dengue and Chikunguniya, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) today organised a rally for civic body-run Navyug schools.
"We have not only to fight the menace of dengue but have to eradicate it completely. In past so many years no death due to dengue has been reported in NDMC areas and we have a challenge ahead to maintain it this way," NDMC Secretary said while flagging off the rally from Navyug School, Mandir Marg.
"More such rallies will be organized in due course by school children in different colonies covering entire NDMC area. Publicity material including pamphlets carrying appeal, public notices were distributed for sensitising general public," an official statement said.
NDMC is also running awareness campaign using mobile vans and SMS to update residents in its areas about prevention and containment of dengue.
"Malaria Unit of NDMC is taking health awareness activities by writing letters to Resident Welfare Associations, advertising through Newspapers, interaction with principals, nodal officers and students," the statement added.
Dengue is transmitted by several species of mosquito within the genus Aedes. Symptoms include fever, headache, muscle and joint pains, and a characteristic skin rash that is similar to measles. Doctors say treatment is symptomatic with no specific cure, so if patients use pain medicines indiscriminately there is a risk of becoming resistant to these.
