Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP) today accused the state government of adopting "non-serious attitude" in providing adequate relief and compensation to flood victims of Saddal village and emphasised on the need for a comprehensive policy for rehabilitation for survivors.
"We express concern over non-serious attitude of the state government in providing adequate relief and compensation to the ill-fated residents of Saddal village of Panchari block of Udhampur district.
"There is a need to formulate a comprehensive policy for the rehabilitation for the survivors of Saddal village," said Yuvraj Vikramaditya Singh, PDP leader and grand son of Maharaja Hari Singh at Panchari today.
Saddal village was completely washed out due to massive landslide, due to incessant rains.
Singh asked the state and central government to immediately devise a policy to provide succour to ill-fated families of the village and adjoining localities, because they had lost everything in the devastating landslide and people were on the verge of starvation.
He also demanded formulating of a comprehensive plan to save future of the children of this village.
Singh, who visited Saddal, Panjar, Landar and Phatti villages to assess the losses and to distribute some relief material among the affected families, said this belt deserved immediate attention of the government because unfortunate inhabitants have lost every thing in the nature's fury.
He demanded that houses should be constructed for the survivors at a safer place because the entire belt was unsafe after massive landslide.
He regretted that even after passing of more than 12 days, bodies of a number of persons were still buried under the debris and there was a need to put in to service advanced machines to retrieve the bodies.
