Vice President Venkaiah Naidu today called for expansion of women education and bringing in an "attitudinal change" to achieve women empowerment.
"There is a need for expanding women education, skill provision and economic upliftment of women but what is more important is an attitudinal change to achieve women empowerment," he said.
Naidu said based on the mantra of the Prime Minister, Niti Ayog was also playing a role in reforming, performing and transforming women empowerment scenario in the country.
The vice-president was speaking at the inaugural session of a two-day international conference titled "Empowering women: Fostering entrepreneurship, innovation and sustainability".
Puducherry governor Kiran Bedi also shared her views pertaining to women empowerment.
"There is a need to pivot attention towards the reaping of a 'gender dividend' simultaneously with demographic dividend," she said.
Bedi stressed on the importance of provisioning of different family services to ease the workload of working women and said education played a critical role in women empowerment.
NITI Aayog's Women Entrepreneurship Platform and Shri Ram College of Commerce, University of Delhi, are jointly organising the two day conference which has representation from countries across various continents.
Over the span of two days, nearly 100 papers would be presented related to the theme of Empowering Women, according to a statement.
