Technical education regulator AICTE's Chairman Anil Dattatraya Sahasrabudhe today called for enhanced mutual cooperation between academic institutions and industry to increase employability.
All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) have come out with a survey report about how well industry-linked the technical institutes are.
"We need to understand the reason as to why only 1,225 institutes participated in this survey while the total number of the technical institutes recognised by the AICTE is 12,234.
"The mutual cooperation between the industry and technical institutions has to increase," the AICTE chairman said at 5th AICTE-CII University-Industry Congress.
As many as 21 awards were bagged by 17 institutes from across the country under various categories like degree, diploma and mentor in the fourth edition of the awards based on results of the annual survey.
Appreciating the growing participation of institutes in the survey, Sahasrabudhe also expressed serious concerns about the fact that the total number of participants institutes still rests at a meager 10 per cent of the total number of technical institutes recognised by the body.
"The per cent of participant institutes is hovering around 10 per cent of the total recognised institutes by AICTE. We have to reach out to various institutes to increase their participation," he said.
Soon after conferring awards to the representatives of the institutes, Sahasrabudhe urged the "mentor" institutes to "handhold" at least ten other institutes that had failed to participate in the event and were lagging behind in terms of performance.
CII President-designate Naushad Forbes, said industries have a "direct interest" in ensuring that students get the best education as the success of the industries largely depends on the quality of their employees.
"There is need for increased University-Industry interaction," he said.
