Kannada Development Authority has complained to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah over "neglect" of Kannada in the affairs of Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited.
"I have written a letter to the Chief Minister pinpointing the neglect of BMRCL towards state language Kannada in their day-to-day affairs," the Authority Chairman Mukhyamantri Chandru told reporters here.
Chandru said he has urged the Chief Minister to pressurise BMRCL to expedite the process of using Kannada language in their official business. "Metro is for the people and so the language of the state should be used for their convenience," he added.
He alleged BMRCL was ignoring the local language in their affairs for the past five years. "There are no name-boards and name-plates in Kannada at metro stations."
"Nor do BMRCL officials respond in Kannada to any letters people write to them. Failing to promote Kannada language will mean failing the Kannadigas of the city," he said.
Chandru also alleged non-Kannadigas were being recruited in good numbers in C and D categories of BMRCL jobs. "There should be 100 per cent job recruitments for Kannadigas in these categories," he added.
He also urged Siddaramaiah to implement Sarojini Mahishi report, particularly with regard to providing jobs to Kannadigas in industrial sector, which would pave the way for Kannada to gain its due status in administration and education.
