Noted Nepali actor Shree Krishna Shrestha passed away while undergoing treatment for pneumonia at Sir Ganga Ram hospital here.
He was 47.
The actor, who had come to India on a holiday, was undergoing treatment for pneumonia for about a month at the hospital.
"He was undergoing treatment for pneumonia and was later discovered to have been suffering from disseminated carcinoma (cancer). He was not responding to the treatment. Moreover, his oxygen level never picked up and his condition deteriorated," said Neeraj Jain, senior consultant (Chest Medicine) at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital.
He said the actor was recently diagnosed with diabetes. In disseminated carcinoma (cancer)a tumour spreads from its original site of growth to another site which could be traced only through biopsy. But he was too sick to undergo biopsy, the doctor said.
Shrestha had married actor Sweta Khadka over a month ago and had come to India for honeymoon.
His body will be taken to Kathmandu tomorrow morning. Popular for dancing and acting skills, Shrestha featured in many successful movies which included 'Maiti', 'Aafno Manche', 'Gorkhali', 'A Mero Hajur', 'Sukha Dukha' among others.
His latest film titled 'Kohinoor', released last Friday, and is currently being screened across Nepal.
Meanwhile, Nepal's Information and Communications Minister Minendra Rijal paid heartfelt tributes to the actor calling his demise an irreparable loss to the Nepali film industry.
