Nifty snaps 2-day winning streak, ends lower by 25 pts

The NSE 50-share Nifty snapped its 2-day winning spree, slipping 25 points to close at 8,917.95 on fag-end selling pressure from operators amid mixed trend in global market.
Shares of power equipment maker BHEL today ended up by 15.56 per cent after the company reported a 54.21 per cent jump in net profit for the April-June quarter.
Shares of IT, Financial services and Energy fell on selling pressure while shares of PSU bank, pharma and metal firmed up good buying enquiries.
The NSE Nifty opened higher at 8,968.70 on initial buying amid good foreign capital inflows. But, it fell afterwards to 8,913.35 before finishing at 8,917.95, showing a loss of 25.05 points or 0.28 per cent.
The Nifty had gained by 168.35 points or 1.92 per cent in previous two days.
A total of 806 scrips advanced, 816 declined, while 70 remained unchanged. Total securities that hit their price bands were 105.
Other major gainers were Bank Of Baroda (3.13 pct), ONGC (2.68 pct), SBI (2.58 pct) and ICICI Bank (2.00 pct).
However, Yes Bank fell by 2.72 pct, Tata Power 2.29 pct, Asian Paints 2.24 pct, HDFC 2.12 pct and Gail 1.80 pct.
Turnover in cash segment rose to Rs 25,427.22 crs from Rs 20,693.63 crore yesterday.
A total of 14,841.26 lakh shares changed hands in 93,13,674 trades. The market capitalisation of NSE stood at Rs 1,10,48,615.25 crore.
