Nine fishermen were today rescued by an Indian Coast Guard ship, after their mechanised boat developed a technical snag, some 10 nautical miles off Manapad town in Tuticorin district, leaving them stranded for more than 15 hours.
The Coast Guard received a distress message from the fishing boat yesterday that it broke down off Manappad coast and it sent its ship ICGS Abhiraj at 6 AM today, which located the vessel at 8.45 AM.
The ship provided medical assistance to the fishermen besides towing the boat and transferring them to another vessel arranged by its owner, an official release said.
