In a written reply to Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs and Planning Rajeev Shukla denied any such plans by the government.
"No...Since 1993, when the Standing Committee system was introduced, the number of days in the Budget Session have got reduced by about three-four weeks as the two Houses have to be adjourned for recess to enable departmentally related Standing Committees to consider the Demands of Grants for various Ministries/Departments and make their reports," Shukla said.
He was replying to a question put up by Congress MP Bhalchandra Mungekar.
Mungekar had sought to know whether the Ministry is mulling to prepare any plan so that Parliament at least function for 100 days a year.
Replying to the question, Shukla added, "If the reduction in the number of sittings on account of recess periods of the Houses is taken in to account, the number of year-wise sittings of the two Houses would be around 100 per year."
