The perceived momentum for BJP in Telangana is non existent and was only a creation of the media, state Congress president N Uttam Kumar Reddy said here on Tuesday.

BJPs "communal politics" would not succeed in Telangana, he said, in an informal interaction with mediapersons.

Reddy's comments came in the wake of BJP pulling off surprise gains in the Lok Sabha polls (bagging four of the total 17 seats) and party leaders claiming that their party is the alternative to the ruling TRS in the state.

He claimed the fight between BJP and Telangana Rashtra Samithi was "not for real" as seen by the TRS supporting the RTI Amendment Bill last week and said it was only the Congress which is the alternative to TRS in the state.

Reddy said the Congress was gearing up the party machinery for municipal elections, which are expected to be held soon.

He also said it was not correct to give powers to District Collectors over municipalities in the Municipalities bill, as also the provision of removing elected representatives for failing to ensure survival of 85 per cent of plants under a green campaign.

Reddy expressed grief over the demise of senior party leader and former minister Mukesh Goud here.

Meanwhile, state Congress vice president Mallu Ravi demanded that the TRS explain why it abstained from voting in the Rajya Sabha on the triple talaq bill.

The NDA government got the bill passed with the indirect support of TRS, he claimed in a statement.

"What will TRS tell Muslims in Telangana on the issue,"? he asked.

Ravi also demanded that AIMIM talk about the role of TRS on the triple talaq issue as TRS was its ally.
