Samajwadi Party President Mulayam Singh Yadav today saw no wrong in performances by Bollywood celebrities at Saifai Mahotsav here, saying there should be no objection when other people can watch such stars.
"When other people can see Bollywood personalities and get entertained through their performances ... Why are there objections over the same for us," Yadav said at the inaugural function of the Saifai Mahotsav at his native village today.
Yadav asked as to why the people here could not get entertainment through such performances when others could do the same.
"This mahotsav is synonymous of rural culture and art which also provides an opportunity for depicting of folk art of different states... It gives people a chance to know and understand cultural richness and also increases national unity and brotherhood," Yadav said.
The cultural extravaganza last year had invited severe flaks as it was organised soon after the Muzaffarnagar riots.
Earlier Party MP Jaya Bachchan inaugurated the 'mahotsav' by lighting traditional lamps in the presence of Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, saying it would provide young people a chance to make a mark in the field of art and culture.
The mahotsav which will last till January 8, will see the performances of artists like Hansraj Hans, Malini Awasthi and Monika Bedi.
Meanwhile, Secretary, state Culture department, Anita Meshram said that state government has approved Rs one crore for the mahotsav.
