Number of criminal cases increased in Goa last year

The number of criminal cases in Goa police stations increased by 4.67 per cent while the detection went up by 2.23 per cent in 2012, according to the Economic Survey, tabled in the Legislative Assembly today.
"The overall crime situation in the state remained under control. Goa police registered 3,610 cases under the Indian Penal Code, compared to 3,448 in the previous year (2011)," it said.
"It shows a marginal increase of 4.67 per cent. However the detection has increased by 2.3 per cent."
The survey said that police have introduced women helpline in the central police control room.
"Existing women police stations are also re-strengthened and sensitised to handle women-related complaints," the survey said.
Road accidents decreased by 5.44 per cent, while number of fatalities decreased by 12.31 per cent in 2012, compared to 2011.
