The family of a man, who was working at the office of Commissioner of Customs and died in a road accident by a rashly driven car, has been awarded compensation of over Rs 40 lakh by a Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) here.
Apart from this, the tribunal also gave compensation of Rs 23,000 to another employee of the office for the injuries sustained in the same accident in 2011.
The tribunal directed Bajaj Allianz General Insurance Company Ltd, with which the offending vehicle was insured, to pay Rs 40,67,830 to the family members of Anand Prakash, who had died in the mishap and Rs 23,000 to injured Vikas Kumar Meena.
"In view of testimony of prosecution witness 1 (Meena) and documents on record the negligence of driver of offending vehicle has been prima facie proved," MACT Presiding Officer Harish Dudani said.
According to the family members of Prakash, and Meena, the accident took place in July of 2011 when both had reached in front of the gate of Le Meridien Hotel at Raisina Road on their motorcycle.
Prakash was riding pillion when suddenly the car being rashly driven by its owner Bharat Panwar came at a high speed and hit them.
Due to the impact, both fell down and received injuries. They were taken to hospital where Prakash died and Meena was discharged after medical treatment.
The petitioners said that 42-year-old Prakash was earning Rs 22,000 per month and 34-year-old Meena, who was working as a driver, was getting over Rs 16,000 per month as salary.
