Odisha becomes a boiling pot, Titlagarh sizzles at 46.5 deg

Gruelling heat persisted in Odisha today with the mercury breaching the 45 degree Celsius mark at four towns and Titlagarh the hottest place in the state sizzling at 46.5 degree Celsius.
The mercury breached the 45 degree Celsius mark at four places, 43 degrees at nine places and 40 degree mark in at least 13 places, the Met office here said.
Titlagarh was the hottest place in the state at 46.5 degree Celsius followed by Malkangiri, which recorded 45.6 degree Celsius, while the mercury stood at 45.2 degree Celsius at both Bhawanipatna and Sonepur, 44.8 degrees at Balangir, 43.6 degree Celsius at Jharsuguda, 43.4 degree C at both Sambalpur and Hirakud and 43.1 degrees at Angul, it said.

Phulbani town recorded a maximum temperature of 42.2 degrees, while the temperature was 42 degrees at Sundargarh, 40.2 degree Celsius at Koraput and 40 degrees at Talcher.
While Bhubaneswar recorded a maximum temperature of 39.3 degree Celsius, the mercury at neighbouring Cuttack city stood at 38 degree Celsius, the Met office said.
At least six people have died due to sunstroke in the state this summer. While three heat related deaths have been reported from Angul district, two casualties took place in Bargarh and one in Balangir district, the special relief commissioner's (SRC) office said.
