In a bid to encourage state employees, the Odisha government today announced to make provisions of pension for contractual workers and decided to have an independent special municipal cadre.
The decisions were taken at the cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik here.
The cabinet decided to amend the Odisha Civil Services Pension Rules that would benefit persons working in the state government on contractual basis.
"With amendment in rules, employees working in the government on contractual basis will get pensions. Under the pension scheme, ten per cent will be deducted from the salary of a contractual employee towards pension; the government will contribute an equal amount towards the scheme," Chief Secretary G C Pati told reporters after the cabinet meeting.
Pati said a proposal of the housing and urban development department for special cadre for the urban body employees was also approved.
The smallest Notified Area Councils (NACs) in the state would have a minimum of 11 employees from the cadre, he said.
The posts in the urban local bodies would be filled up through Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) and Odisha Staff Selection Commission (OSSC), Pati said adding, a bill in this regard would be tabled in the State Assembly.
Once the draft is passed in the House, different cadre employees will be brought under the special cadre, which will streamline their promotions and recruitment, he said.
The Group D staff of urban local bodies would be outsourced, the official said, adding only Group A, B and C officers would be a part of the cadre.
In another decision, the cabinet approved a proposal of leasing out government land measuring five acres at Mouza Brajabiharipur under Athagarh Tahasil in Cuttack district, free of all charges, in favour of the Registrar, Maulana Azad National Urdu University, Hyderabad for establishment of a Regional Centre in the state.
