The Odisha government today entered into an agreement with the Asian Nature Conservation Foundation (ANCF) to protect elephants in the state.
"The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will remain in force for two and half years during which the state government has to spend Rs 49.51 lakh towards the survey and protection measures by the ANCF," an official said.
The ANCF would make a detailed survey on the elephant population in the state, which was on the decline recently and take steps for their protection.
The ANCF is a charitable trust dedicated to the conservation of Asian elephants, they said.
