Odisha Government has won the prestigious Technology Sabha Awards for its Early Warning Dissemination System (EWDS), Special Relief Commissioner B P Sethi said here on Wednesday.
He said the state was chosen under the Unified Communications category for the Technology Sabha Awards, instituted by the Indian Express group.
The award function will be hosted at the Technology Sabha event at Jaipur from August 8 to 10.
The EWDS is the first of its kind automatic public address system in the country, he said.
The system helps warn people residing along the coast from the state headquarters through loud sirens from towers installed at 122 locations in the state, in the event of natural disasters like cyclone.
"The EWDS helped the state to protect the lives of many people during cyclone Fani which hit the Odisha coast on May 3, 2019," Sethi said.
