The incident happened around two pm when Sgt Amit Shaw stopped a vehicle for reckless driving. The driver of the vehicle, 21-year-old Arshad Rehman, picked up an argument with the police officer and assualted him before making a bid to escape.
The driver also assaulted an onduty police constable.
The vehicle was later seized and the driver arrested.
