The police had picked up a young boy and girl moving about suspiciously in Simaluguri area of the district last night following a complaint by local residents.
The youth, identified as 25-year old Pranab Baruah, attempted to escape by jumping off the vehicle while being brought, along with the girl, to the police station and succumbed to his injuries at Simaluguri Hospital.
In another incident, a woman, hailing from Arunachal Pradesh, jumped out of a vehicle near Lilabari Hospital in Lakhimpur last night alleging that the driver of the vehicle misbehaved with her.
