A 44-year-old woman today died due to swine flu here, taking the number of H1N1 deaths in the district to four this month, a senior health official said.
The woman succumbed to swine flu while undergoing treatment at the state government-run Maharaja Yeshwantrao Hospital, he said.
The deceased, who resided in Ramkrishna Bagh locality of the city, was admitted to a private hospital on January 13.
After her condition turned critical, she was admitted to the MY Hospital, Integrated Diseases Surveillance Project's (IDSP) District Unit In-charge G L Sodhi told PTI.
He said that another 36-year-old woman, a resident of the Gautampura area died while being treated at a private hospital yesterday after she was admitted in a critical condition on January 14.
He said that as temperatures are constantly low, the H1N1 virus has become active due to which people with low immunity have been falling prey to swine flu.
Around 16 hospitals have been chosen for treating swine flu patients and a special ward has also been set up for such patients in the state-run Maharaja Yeshwantrao Hospital here where specialists have been deputed for the purpose, he said.
Sodhi said that there was an adequate stock of Tamiflu to treat patients, adding that the IDSP has identified five H1N1 patients, of which four have succumbed to the disease, while one other is critical.
Last year six people died due to H1N1.
