The accused Shujat Mohammed Ali, a Hyderabadi, who runs a cellular phone shop in Dubai and travelled along with female Emirates crew member Sadah Khan on April 9, had given the gold bars to her, after which he fled back to Dubai in another flight, a senior Customs official said today.
"We brought him back from Dubai and his interrogation has established the link in smuggling 13 kg gold using the female crew member," the official said, adding that further investigations were on to determine local links.
Female Emirates crew member Sadah Khan was a native of Maharashtra and had arrived on the airline's flight from Dubai as an ordinary off-duty passenger.
After searching her, officers of the Customs Air Intelligence Unit arrested her after they found that she had concealed gold bars weighing 13 kg worth Rs 3.76 crore, in her dress.
