As many as 4,500 applicants from unauthorised colonies of North and North-West Delhi have been waiting for one year to avail new electricity connections as the city government is yet to provide land to Tata-backed NDPL to set up new sub-stations despite repeated requests.
CEO and Managing Director of Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (TPDDL), Praveer Sinha, said he has written to Delhi government's Power Department several times seeking land, but the matter is still to be sorted out.
"There are around 150 unauthorised colonies where our existing transformers are already overloaded. To meet the increasing demand of new power connections in these colonies, I have written to the government over a dozen times demanding land from to set up sub-stations," Sinha said.
Another official of the company said there are around 4,500 applications for new electricity connections pending for nearly a year.
"If government doesn't give the land to the discom at the earliest for setting up sub-stations, the situation will deteriorate," the official further said.
Delhi government's spokesperson could not be reached for comments.
