To arrest the declining production of the ageing Baramura field and to enhance productivity from tight reservoir sands of this area, it was decided to undertake hydro-fracturing, he said.

He said the ONGC has decided to engage two more high power rigs at Khubal to explore two more gas well to know the true potential of gas reserve there.

Regarding the state government's initiative to set up a fertilizer plant in Unakoti district, Mahawar said,"investment will be made only after assuring of gas supply to the plant at least for 15 years".

"We have intensified our exploration drive by applying high technology to recover gas from the area," he said.

"We expect to receive 20,000 or 25000 lakh cubic meter gas from a well where HF technology was introduced", he claimed.
